The Olympic Base Rhineland-Palatinate/Saarland benefits from several factors of its location. Especially the close connection to Saarland University, the Hermann Neuberger sports-school, the renowned Institute for Sports Medicine of Prof. Winfried Kindermann, and the Institute for Sports Science form an ideal network, which combines different aims and effects. It is therefore not surprising that in 2005, the World Badminton Association opened the first of its altogether five international training centres at the Olympic Base. In addition, an Elite-School for Sports and a new Athletes’ Centre are being developed. The sports facilities of the sports association of Saarland located around the Hermann Neuberger sports-school offer state-of-the-art sporting grounds, functional conference rooms as well as lodging on hotel-level on nearly 90,000 square metres in a magnificent nature setting. In particular, the Athletics Centre with its big halls and the new swimming pool, offering tracks of 50 metres, are outstanding features, while multimedia-devices optimize training. In addition to athletes training at the Olympic Base, top class sportsmen and sportswomen from all over the world regularly come here. But also sports associations and clubs, as well as regular sporting people meet for congresses or seminars and enjoy the special surroundings and facilities.
