Tourism

Our charm is bound- and borderless

The Saar
The Saar
Our little country is still an insider tip. Hidden beauties like idyllic lakes and river valleys, endless forests, sleepy villages and pulsating old town centres wait to be discovered just as much as romantic vineyards, impressive monuments and archaeological finds. A journey through Saarland is an impressive cultural discovery tour, marked by the evidence of a turbulent history.

Pure relaxation

Bostalsee
Saarland offers the complete wellness-package – and all in a fascinating environment. Those who want to relax and recuperate will find plenty of hotels and spas fulfilling their every need. But also those seeking adventures in nature can choose from a broad variety of activities. Hiking, for example: Nordic Walking in nature parks, donkey- trekking along old smugglers’ paths, a tour of three countries in one day or discovering traces of old cultures, there is something for everyone.

Earth, water, sky – you can be active anywhere

Go on a bike tour! We have 2,000 kilometres of mapped cycling paths
Go on a bike tour! We have 2,000 kilometres of mapped cycling paths. Or if you can ride, take a riding trip on our more than 300 kilometres of riding paths. Of course, you can exchange the bike for golf, go gliding, parachuting, ride a hot-air balloons or a water vehicle. In any case, it is best to end the day with a culinary experience of a slightly French touch, whether you like it rustic or gourmet- style: Everything is possible.

Insights into European culture

Even more prominent are the signs of industrialisation, the most renowned being the Old Völklingen Steel Works, now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage
Saarland’s culture dates back to Gallo-Roman, even Celtic times and can be traced back to today’s times. Various castles bear the signs of renaissance, baroque and middle-ages. Even more prominent are the signs of industrialisation, the most renowned being the Old Völklingen Steel Works, now a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. The steel works are best visited in combination with one of the spectacular exhibitions regularly held on the works’ premises. Not only the open and friendly people of Saarland, but also the neighbouring regions are inspiring: Romantic Luxemburg, the Porta Nigra and the Emperor’s Hot Springs, both signs of Roman inhabitation in Trier, Metz with its historic old town, and last but not least, Strasburg with its impressive cathedral are all destinations worth a visit. A region such as ours, where France, Luxemburg and Germany come together, is ideal for experiencing both national traditions and European culture hundreds of years old, going back to Carolingian times.
